Megacon!

Yup, my geekiness *really* knows no bounds. I managed to get the finances together enough to buy plane tix to Tampa, so I can finally meet some of these Nightgig people I've been working with for, oh, 'bout two years now. That's the real reason for going -- we've got a table again this year, and I didn't get to go last time.

I waited around for Christmas money so I could afford to go, and said if I found tix for around $200/$225 I could go.

Well, guess what? ^_^ $203. Fees and everything.

So I'm going to be taking a vacation of sorts in the middle of the semester. I'm going to miss class. I'm not going to care. After the exam (Jan 22nd) I don't think I'll really care all that much, anyway. I will also be missing the annual conference put on at KU by the German grad students, it turns out, although the date I originally heard was in March, not conflicting with Megacon (which was the case last year, and I was one of the ones running the grad student conference). Had my plans made; not my fault. I've been there every other time (except when I was in Germany, of course), so they can deal. :P

Hope you have a great time. my daughter is in Austraila on winter break and we will pick her up friday so she can start her next semester. School is so stressful. Both my kids are going through it ( after working for three years) and I give them a lot of support that they seem to appreciate. I feel like I'm a coach- I say- "yah yah you can do it ! I'm so proud of you! I knew you'd figure it out!"( professors they don't like) They have a long way to go . They will need a Masters',minimum.
I am traveling myself in a couple of weeks. My husband and I are going to Morocco. My idea. I want an "adventure". Better bring my berka! Seriously, I have quite a trip planned. This is the first trip that I have designed and it isn't your usual lay on the beach and drink pina col-adas, no, we will be roughing it most of the time. Most of the time a hole in the ground will be our toilet- and no central heat- I had to get five inoculations.

I maintained over the holidays. I tried not to get uptight about the extra food but it was pretty hard and I didn't get to enjoy the celebration as much, plus, none of my kids or relatives were here. Oh well.

oh- also i wanted to tell you I love the way you have done your journal. I hope to one day be able to personalize everything i do on the pc- but I guess i am a "newbie"

Oh what is a "night gig"?

Oh, hi there. :) Didn't know that folks from C-C were reading the ol' LiveJournal. I feel all special now. :)

Sounds like Morocco will be quite the adventure! The only thing I know about Morocco is that tagine chicken is yummy. :) Hope you have a great time!

Oh, and a "night gig" is the opposite of your day job. ;) In this case, Nightgig is a web community for artists (and occasional folks like me, web designers) who are doing their art as a hobby and who want to put their stuff up online. Most of the folks at Nightgig are webcomickers, and many are incredibly talented. A friend of mine started up this site a few years ago, and I started doing web design stuff as my "night gig". :)
