The best birthday EVER (yes, my inner 13-year-old is showing) started actually before Saturday, and is still going...

A couple of my friends who didn't make it to the party last night sent me e-cards yesterday... as evidenced here and here (note: they are in German, but those of you who don't get German should get the idea anyway.)

Kort sent me a cute one yesterday too.

The people who were invited to my party and were told explicitly NOT to bring me presents did so anyway. I am now the owner of a nice copy of The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier (thanks Julia and Bryan!), an anthology of Queen sheet music (that was Becca... surprised?), and LOTS of chocolate, mostly of the German persuasion (big shout-out thanks to Viki, Anne & Ted!).

I have Ritter Sport now. I am a happy girl.

I was honestly just glad to see everyone, and for them to have a good time. The moment defining my perception of the evening was thus: I walked back in the living room from a short trip elsewhere, sat down in the only available chair (next to the computer) and listened to the pleasant chatter. I didn't even have to participate in the discussions at that moment to be perfectly happy. I was surrounded by friends who were relaxed, enjoying themselves, and interacting with each other. Bringing people together gives me great joy. I have no need for presents when surrounded with such presence.

The gumbo was well received (11-12 guests ate about 18 servings... I've got about 6 left) and there's just enough bread pudding leftover for me to enjoy twice or to share with someone once. There is, of course, a lovely mess in my kitchen, but Joel has offered to help me clean that up in exchange for me saving some gumbo for him, since he had to miss out. Hardly a fair trade, since I had leftover gumbo anyway, but I'll take it. *grin*

I got more hugs last night.... that should tide me over until at least Tuesday. *grin*

I even felt like working on my presentation this morning when I got up. Of course, my batteries are a bit low, so reading through the entire article in one sitting didn't happen... I'm about halfway through after two sittings. I went back to sleep after reading the first bit. I'm headed that direction again soon. I'll hopefully finish reading and start writing after the next naptime, which is fast approaching...

P.S. When Julia and Ebbi left, they said goodbye in Danish (they're both in 104 this semester)... and I of course had to say 'goða nótt'. A language geek to the end. ^_^
