- ben folds five:
Ah, Ben Folds, and his group from a few years ago. I first got into his/their music about four years ago, when my sister got Whatever and Ever Amen. I even went to see him in concert in August of this year, and it was fabulous. He is the greatest living pianist I know of, able to make the ivories sit up and beg. Thoroughly entertaining to watch, and a great showman. - crossword puzzles:
What can I say? I grew up doing these... Four generations of women in my family have done crosswords in their spare time, usually leaving them as bathroom reading material. A good mental challenge, some of them. - gimbab:
Mmmmmm. The Korean version of Japanese Maki, these little rice rolls just make my tastebuds tingle. I miss them so. - j.r.r. tolkien:
The classic fantasy writer/ mythology creator. His romances (the original meaning, that of the hero's quest) have been a staple in my house since age 7. Totals: The Hobbit (8 times), LOTR (5 times), The Silmarillion (not yet once, but I've read sections multiple times). - minnesinger:
German troubadours of the Middle Ages. "Minnesinger" is actually the anglicized term (Minnesaenger is the German) but I enjoy reading their poetry. - old languages:
Yes, any old language. Any old form. Of particular interest are the Germanic languages, although Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic and Sanskrit are on my list to learn. I am a geek. - science fiction:
Another staple of my childhood. While not as well-versed as some, I am still an afficionada of hard science fiction (as opposed to scifi fantasy) like Asimov and Bradbury. - swimming:
The most relaxing sport to me. I love being in the water. It's a good workout too, but I don't go near often enough. - theater:
Watching it or performing in it, I definitely have a theatrical streak. (
mipuravida saw it in me right away). Musicals are a particular favorite. I want to play Dolly and Eliza Doolittle, as well as Cinderella and the Baker's Wife from Into the Woods. Just sometime before I die. - word origins:
Yes, I am a language geek. Seeing where words come from and how they are related to each other is just another puzzle to my problem-solving mind. See also Old Languages and Crossword Puzzles above.
