2) lawrence.com is, well... an interesting thing. It's essentially a website for Lawrence, KS where I live. Run by? Sponsored by? Funded by? the Lawrence Journal-World, but open to all... some bloggers (like Joel) are reporters/writers for the LJWorld anyway, some are not -- but there's a great mix of opinions there, that pretty much reflects (IMO) the diversity that is Lawrence.
Interesting tidbit: Joel's blog was one of the first things I read when I was finding out about Lawrence (when I first looked at KU, back in 2002/2003). I thought -- this is a cool town, with stuff like this. Little did I know that it was underwritten by a media company, but still... It's great that there are this many active bloggers in this town that are actually good enough to have online columns.
I've toyed with the notion of applying for a blog myself. Still debating. Sometimes there are months when I don't have time...
