Do I really need to say this?

Ben Folds was awesome!

I mean, of course he was. The concert was too, despite a slight drizzle and the threat of thunderstorms to the outdoor venue that was the City Market. Thoroughly enjoyed Rufus Wainwright as well, but man, am I glad he was the warm-up act! Apparently they had planned a short set because of the weather, but since the floodgates of heaven did not open, they just kept playing.

It was fabulous.

High points:
  • hearing the crowd's low roar with the first notes of "Brick"
  • Ben and Rufus' duet on a cover of "Careless Whisper"
  • Ben directing the audience to fill in the brass parts on "Army"
  • "Bitches can't take the streets": words by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog, music by Ben Folds
  • Ending the concert with "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces"
  • Shouting "Zugabe" at the top of my lungs because I don't know what to yell in English to say "encore" at a rock concert
  • Ben leading the audience *again* on the encore number (which, I'm sorry to say, I didn't know, so no title forthcoming, until Robyn ([livejournal.com profile] mipuravida) enlightens me as to which song is was. I'll know it when I hear it though. No doubt about that.

I went to this fabulous fest of pianophonic goodness with Becca, Jim, Jim's boy Aaron and their mutual friend Nate. They were all of them good company. It was Aaron's first non-classical concert; I personally think he made a good choice. We stood around outside for about 30 minutes before I thought to go get my tickets at Will Call, but since we waited around for another 30 minutes after I got back with them, there was no hurry. Becca saw two people she knew; Paige, one of her SAI pledge daughters, and Bruno, who I think is Brazillian (IIRC). Robyn ([livejournal.com profile] mipuravida) found me in line and we babbled for a few minutes (much to the amusement of Nate the Cynical). Found out that Jim has an LJ too, so there's another addition to the Friends List. *grin*

In the afterglow of Ben Folds' musical splendor we went to a little dive called Nichols Lunch, your basic diner, chowed down on good greasy fare, and Becca and I drove the boys home (or at least back to Jim's place, where we'd picked them up). B was kind enough to do most of the driving back home, since I was playing highway hypnosis every few minutes.

I kept saying it, and I will keep saying it: I missed them. Becca and I attempted the Recordare from Verdi's Requiem a couple of times during the course of the evening (fairly successfully at one point), at half-voice while we were waiting for the concert, and at full volume afterwards. (We were on a music high; we didn't care. It was GREAT!) Being around Jim was a delight as usual, and I haven't enjoyed that delight for quite some time. We knew we were kindred spirits from day one (the Anti-Millenium Party, New Years' Eve, 1999), and we haven't forgotten it. It was so lovely to give Jim shit again. ;)

There should be some delightfully concice conclusion here, but there won't be. The euphoria's not over yet, why should my post be?
