If you've got it, flaunt it

Not, your bod. Your skills.
I usually hate selling myself. You know, the shameless self-promotion one must engage in in order to ... get a job.
I'm entering the workaday world, make no mistake.
I also realize I'm probably not candidate #1 for this job. That doesn't stop me from actually being *excited* about the prospect of working there.
Where you ask? As an office assistant (part-time) at a scientific research facility on the KU campus.
I've done clerical work (almost exclusively) since high school. I feel... relatively well-qualified for this job. Of the requirements: Excellent written communication skills? Check. Previous work experience with Microsoft Office products? Yes. Bachelor's degree or 3 years' clerical experience? Both.
Preferred qualifications: Use Access, Excel, Word? Yes, to varying degrees. Experience editing scientific documents? Not really. Excellent verbal communication skills and experience working with diverse groups? Check and mostly check. Ability to work well independently and in a team environment? I'd like to think so. Excellent organizational skills? Possibly. Experience in research? Not really. Experience in a university environment? Absolutely.
So, as you can see, it's a coin-toss. If the rest of the applicants aren't so good, I might have a chance.
We'll see. Deadline is today. I've got to go to the library first to fix the filetype (of course, I don't have Word at home on the Mac...).
But in any case, I had to write a cover letter for this one. It's a doozy. I might actually post it sometime, once I'm working there (or positive I won't be).
This is the first one. I'm not likely to get it. But it feels good to take the risk, lauding my own achievements like some ego-driven monster.
